Like him or not you can't deny that Star Wars, Rings of Power, new stuff from Marvel are just bad stories. You can have whatever message you want but dont be boring. Im not gonna say a story is interesting when it clearly isnt just because a certain group is represented, or an ideology is pushed.

You know, you may have been onto something here, but, ironically, your bias and rather baseless assumptions got in the way. Statements like "if Drinker is gonna speculate that Oda demanded that women never be shown one-upping men [...]" reveal this. Drinker never stated nor implied that that's the case. Assuming that Oda is the reason thzat women aren't shown to be better than men at everything at every opportunity, however, is a different matter, and it is bafflingly obvious to me that that's what he was talking about. Drinker, as well as many others from his sphere, have made it abundantly clear in the past, and keep doing so, that they don't have any issues whatsoever with strong, female characters, nor with women being better than men at certain things, so you're painting him with a very biased and somewhat dishonest brush, which is not only, as I already mentioned, ironic, but also somewhat damning for your position, given what this video pretends to be and how it accuses the Drinker of doing the very same thing. Drinker's review of the One Piece show comes from a place of having seen one badly written girl boss dominate without narratively earning it after another, so the fact that he finds competent male and female characters who all have their individual strengths and weaknesses and are all better than their counterparts in certain regards refreshing, doesn't really make him shallow, dishonest or ill informed, and given that the characters are very similar to their manga/anime counterparts, unlike the characters of pretty much every other western live-action adaptation of manga/anime, and that is why the dynamics work that way, it is not unreasonable to assume that Oda's hand in the project is what's to thank for the lack of poorly written Mary Sues who are all better, faster, stronger, smarter than all of their male peers, simply because those aren't in the source material and Oda wanted this show to resemble the source material. He may not have explicitly mandated that men be as a competent as women, but if we, purely for argument's sake, assume that the first draft had women beat and show up men at every possibility, do you think Oda would've "greenlit" that? And, given Hollywood's trajectory at the time, it is also not unreasonable to assume that, without stern supervision, that's exactly what we would have gotten. I'll just end my comment here, and only go into one example in this much detail, even though I could say a lot more, since, if I were to respond to each point, I assume I would find out, the hard way, what UA-cam's character limit for comments is. Obviously, you're also right about aspects of your analysis of the Drinker, but, while his views are influenced by a rather conservative worldview, your very own bias is similarly showing, when you misrepresent the points that he makes and why he makes them. When you, for example, say that we're not actually comparing modern Hollywood and modern Japanese stories, because the manga is obviously not a modern piece of literature, it comes off as either ignorant or dishonest, as the adaption of it is modern, and other examples have shown that western creators aren't above or opposed to changing the story to adapt it for the modern audience. By looking at the circumstantial evidence of Netflix's One Piece closely resembling the source material and Oda having a large measure of control over its production (which includes its pre-production, so re-shoots are only one aspect of it), we can very well draw conclusions about modern Hollywood and modern Japanese culture from it. The Drinker's videos are rather short, so he doesn't concern himself with giving evidence and examples for every point he makes, which may be considered detrimental to his narrative by you and others, but we do see Japanese creators reject many of the things that the Drinker considers "woke".

If you don't like critics like CD then watch ones you do like and ignore him.. Nobody is forcing you to watch his vids. To get worked up about YT channels and create a movie critic war is really, really stupid. Pre Internet when we only had TV and radio, ppl would change the station if they didn't like a show and move on with their lives. For the comments portion of this video both comments feel pretty unreliable do to the bad reviews using the same vague buzz word heavy language, and the good ones being posted around the same time is suspicious. But to say she doesn't show any sources that's just a blatant lie each time any DW show mentions anything on there hosts show not only dose a resource they also give you information on how to find it. I find that to be a bit disingenuous, I think both sides are dumb and each president regardless of which side is going to keep digging our grave so I have no horse in this race, but just outright lying doesn't help your credibility it's just like they have so many faults and you choose to fabricate some?
